The northern end, and the university

North of Elgin Street the suburb loosens. Rathdowne Street keeps its own small village of shops, the terraces get grander, and Princes Park opens out at the top with its running track and the oval. West of the suburb is the University of Melbourne, and that shapes the calendar.
